Mo Baala
born in 1986 in Casablanca.
A multi-disciplinary artist, Mo Baala grew up in Taroudant. He drew his artistic and creative education from traditional arts and crafts, mainly Moroccan and African. His interest in philosophy, history and literature also fuelled his creative practice. Her first significant encounters with mentors played an essential role in her artistic development, starting with those in the bustling markets of Taroudant where Mo spent her youth. Later, his quest for knowledge led him to pursue his own research on the web. His eclectic sources of inspiration foreshadow the variety of his current work.
His training, which is neither rigid nor academic, enables him to move fluidly from one medium to another.
Trained from an early age in crafts, particularly leatherwork, his art has evolved over time. He was in his early twenties when he began working on paper - drawings and collages - followed by creations on leather and textiles. He turned resolutely towards painting on canvas, with a keen interest in site-specific installations, performance art and, more recently, video art.
Since his emergence on the international art scene, which followed his participation in the Marrakech Biennial in 2016, Mo Baala's creations have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work has been presented at numerous international art events.
