As often in his work, Mustapha Azeroual revives an ancient process of printing with gum bichromate 1 requiring both patience and concentration, but especially leaving the sublime part to chance. Here, contingency and materiality reign.
For the series Monade(s) - whose title refers to a philosophical concept of Leibniz designating the minimal unit of perception - flashes of light of high intensity, close to burning or radiation, print sumptuous luminous halos on the surface of the paper. (...) Mustapha Azeroual's photograms are based on a paradoxical process of blinding, giving form to visual and geometric traces that are as invisible as they are indelible, like so many flashes of light, in all its unthinkable disappearance.
