Born in 1979 in Tours, Mustapha Azeroual is a self-taught photographer of Franco-Moroccan origin. He lives and works in Paris.
Trained as a scientist, his work is based on observation and experimentation, confronting the historical techniques of shooting and printing with the contemporary issues of photography. Questioning the tools, the processes of appearance and the supports, the artist privileges above all the point of view of the spectator.
His work consists of an analysis of the photographic process and is articulated around four main fields of study: the study of light, the question of the motif, the study of the recording and restitution of color and the question of the support. These research themes have given rise to sections of works in which the series become spaces for experimentation.
A permanent resident of La Capsule, Centre de création photographique du Bourget, he joined Fresh Winds at the end of 2015, as part of the Gardur Contemporary Art Biennial in Iceland.
He is developing the ELLIOS project, a study of light, in partnership with LESIA (the Paris-Meudon Observatory's sun observation pole).
His work is represented in France by the Binome Gallery (Paris), in the United States by Mariane Ibrahim Gallery (Seattle), and by MCC GALLERY in Morocco (Marrakesh).
